LANDO NORRIS: THE MCLAREN BOY DELIVER

Learn more about the story behind Lando Norris’s first-ever Formula 1 victory with McLaren and discover more details about the creation process behind his edit for Docuedit F1 2024.

LANDO NORRIS EDIT CONTEXT

Lando Norris arrived in Miami ready to fight for the top positions in the 2024 Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix. He had a visible scar on his nose after suffering a small cut from broken glass while partying weeks before in the Netherlands. The Miami Grand Prix was a Sprint weekend. Lando started in the worst possible way, crashing at the start of the Sprint race on Saturday and retiring on lap 1.

Fortunately, the rest of the weekend went much better. Lando was fast in qualifying, setting the fifth fastest lap and starting on the third row for Sunday’s race. During the race, Norris matched Verstappen’s pace in the first stint and even extended it longer. Then luck came into play — a crash between Kevin Magnussen and Logan Sargeant brought out the Safety Car.

This allowed McLaren to pit Norris under Safety Car conditions, bringing him out in the lead just ahead of Verstappen. After the restart, Norris set an incredible pace, becoming untouchable for the rest of the field. In that way, Lando Norris won his first Formula 1 race, six years after his debut, giving McLaren a long-awaited victory.

DEVELOPER DIARY 02 – DOCUEDIT F1 2024

How did Dani connect the Lando Norris edit with the previous one? In this new episode of the Developer Diary, you’ll get a closer look at the editing process behind Docuedit F1 2024 and how Dani is building the season’s storyline, edit by edit, finding common points to create the perfect script.

• The Incident before the Miami GP

The new edit I had been working on over the previous few weeks was about Lando Norris, who won his first Formula 1 Grand Prix during the 2024 season. That’s why I created an edit about Lando Norris and his fantastic victory in Miami for Docuedit Formula 1 2024. In the edit, I tell the story of Lando Norris during the Miami Grand Prix, which started in a very unusual way, as you can see in the image below.

In this frame extracted from the edit I made about Lando for Docuedit F1 2024, you can see the kind of incident Lando had at a party in the Netherlands one week before travelling to Miami. Why did I decide to include this incident involving Lando Norris in the edit?

• Carlos Sainz Edit connection

In the previous episode, we talked about Carlos Sainz’s comeback. I showed you the extraordinary recovery Carlos made between the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and the Australian Grand Prix. He had suffered appendicitis in Saudi Arabia and was replaced by Oliver Bearman at Ferrari. Just 15 days later, Carlos Sainz was able to win the Australian Grand Prix, as you could see in the previous image, where he was celebrating on the podium with Lando Norris. You could still see that Carlos hadn’t fully recovered, but despite that, he managed to win the race.

Something similar happened to Lando Norris, although it was much less serious. It was just a small cut caused by broken glass. Ironically, after suffering this incident, Lando Norris also went on to win a Grand Prix, just like Carlos Sainz, who won after dealing with appendicitis. That’s why I was showing you Lando Norris’s injury: to connect these two edits in Docuedit. The physical problems Carlos Sainz suffered and Lando Norris experienced helped me connect these two edits together, you know?

Obviously, the Lando Norris edit focused on his weekend in Miami, which started very badly with a crash in the Sprint Race. The edit follows him throughout the entire weekend, building up to the peak: the most spectacular, emotional, and thrilling moment, when Lando crosses the start-finish line and wins the Miami Grand Prix.
